“Don’t mean to ignore you, but I’m coming down the home stretch on finishing up a new body of work for my upcoming shows! It’s been a whirlwind of creativity and chaos over here, with at least another week of keeping my head down and painting, painting, painting. 🎨✨ Thank goodness for Erika @erikadanielleart , who swoops in to the rescue each week—varnishing, stretching canvases, and making the studio magical again. I truly don’t think I could do this without her! She’s the best assistant anyone could ask for. 💛 I can’t wait to share all the new work with you soon! Meanwhile… I’m back to painting! 🎨🔥”

Yesterday, I was asked why I paint florals so often in my work. I had to think about it—because honestly, I don’t give it much thought. They just seem to appear. So why is that? 🌿🎨

First of all, flowers are a universal love language, symbolizing resilience and renewal. 🌸✨ But for me, I’m just super fascinated by their colors and shapes. As a kid, I spent every summer hanging out in my aunt’s flower shop in Savannah. 💐 I loved all the buckets of flowers almost more than the actual arrangements. It definitely left an imprint on my artistic brain. 🎨 Many moons ago, I worked for a florist in Atlanta for a few years, where I was put in charge of the orchids. 🏵️ That’s when my love of orchids began. The florist would toss any orchid that had stopped blooming, and I would take them home and patiently wait months for it to bloom again. 🌱💜

A lot of people think I have a green thumb. I don’t. 🌵❌ Succulents especially don’t like me at all. Orchids and I just seem to get along—or at least they tolerate me. Now, I probably have two dozen throughout my home and studio. 🏡🎨 It’s so lovely because there are usually blooms all year round. 🌿🌸

Yesterday, I was asked why I paint florals so often in my work. I had to think about it—because honestly, I don’t give it much thought. They just seem to appear. So why is that? 🌿🎨

First of all, flowers are a universal love language, symbolizing resilience and renewal. 🌸✨ But for me, I’m just super fascinated by their colors and shapes. I’d love to say every painting comes fully formed from my head, but the truth is—most of the time, it’s a wild dance of play and experimentation. I fold, roll, and manipulate the canvas, watching how it takes the paint like a puzzle waiting to be solved. 🖌️✨ A few random marks can spark my imagination, and off I go! Other times, I just keep playing because it’s fun, and I love the direction it’s heading.

Lately, I’ve been using syringes to distribute paint. It might seem odd, but for me, it feels completely natural. After 11 years of using a feeding tube, a syringe has become second nature—muscle memory at its finest. But now, instead of just nourishment, it’s delivering bursts of color onto the canvas. 💉🌈🖼️ I love how it lets me control the flow of paint, settling into the folds and creases, leaving behind beautiful, unpredictable marks. It’s pure bliss. 🤩✨

Where will it go? That’s the best part—I never know for sure! 🎨🌟

I get a lot of questions about what paints and brushes I use… and honestly? I use EVERYTHING! 🎨🖌️ I’m like a mad scientist in here, mixing and experimenting to see what magic happens.

This all started back in elementary school when my best friend and I would sneak into the school kitchen (tiny school perks!) and throw every ingredient we could find into a big pot on the stove 😱🔥 just to see what it would do. Different times, huh? And somehow… we never got in trouble (probably helped that her dad ran the school! 😂).

And just like that… we have a new family member. ❤️🐶 Sometimes you don’t get what you want, but you get what you need.

The best guy in the world and I knew we wanted another dog after saying goodbye to Pam. We had a list of what we wanted (and didn’t want), thinking a pup between Louie’s size and Rae’s might be perfect. A chihuahua felt too small, too much of a reminder. I scoured Petfinder religiously, visited our local humane society, and fell in love with so many. But the best guy in the world kept reminding me… the right one will come at the right time.

Then one day, lightning struck. ⚡️ I knew she was the one! Funny thing is, I might have passed her up if I had known her weight—thinking she was Pam’s size. But we applied to adopt through @laskeysluckyones , not expecting much since she had so many applications and we were 1.5 hours away.

To our surprise… we were chosen. 🥹💕 They even brought her to us for a trial. She was taller than Louie but only 7 lbs! She had been found as a stray, barely 5 lbs. @laskeysluckyones did an incredible job getting her medical care and bringing her back to health. She still needs to gain more… but that’s not a problem in this house! 😂

She was so uncertain at first, clinging to Logan and acting frantic around food. That first night, I held her close, and she started to calm. Within a day, she mastered sit and found her place in the studio. Louie and Rae think she’s alright… they were used to having a third dog around. She sticks to me like glue—wherever I go, she’s right there. And to my surprise… that was exactly what I needed.

At the rescue, she was called Gigi, but that’s a little tricky for me to say (speech impediment). Plus, she didn’t really know it. So we named her Zizi after the famous French ballerina Zizi Jeanmaire—because this girl has mad dancing skills. 💃 And since the best guy in the world’s ringtone is ZZ Top… it stuck.

Rae just wants to say hi! 🐶💕 She’s absolutely loving all the space in the newly redone studio, and honestly, so am I! I feel like I can breathe again. 🌿✨ I’ve learned that while I’m a messy artist 🎨, I also love knowing exactly where everything is at all times. I work in the moment and need to grab what I need quickly— and now, I finally can. It’s a game-changer! 🙌 And I’m beyond excited about the new paintings I’m working on! 💃🎨

In other news, I’m not totally out of the woods with this infection yet. 🌿😷 The antibiotic infusion has thrown some strange side effects my way, and in another week, I’ll transition to oral antibiotics. We’re praying they do the trick so I won’t need another round of that heavy-duty infusion. 🙏🤞✨

On a happier note, the best guy in the world 💙🐾 and I are thinking about adopting another pup! 🐶🥹 If it were up to me, we’d have a whole rescue full of them! 🏡🐾🐾 I was recently asked in an interview how I get through my day-to-day, and the answer was easy—art, family, friends, and puppos! 🎨👨‍👩‍👧🐶 OMG, I love them all so much. But thanks to some heavy-duty antibiotic infusions, it’s almost gone, and I’m finally feeling more like myself again. ✨ It wasn’t the way I planned to start the year, but maybe, in a way, it was exactly what I needed.

Before I got sick, I had started a major studio reorganization—one of those projects that quickly turned into absolute chaos 💥💣. But since painting wasn’t an option while I was feeling crummy, I took it slow, cleaning and organizing every square inch. 🧹My last two studio moves were so rushed with deadlines that I never fully unpacked, so for the first time, I had the chance to truly put my space together. Even though I built this studio (okay, not the actual walls and roof… 😉), it hadn’t completely felt like mine—until now. 🙏

After working in it for a couple of years, I finally knew what was working and what was holding me back. And oh my gosh… it feels so good now. 🌿 Everything has a place—every brush, every tube of paint, every little thing. ✨ And for the first time, my studio truly feels like me.

I started painting 🎨 again today, and it hit me how important this whole process has been—not just for my studio, but for my art and my soul. 💛 If I hadn’t been forced to slow down, I don’t think I would have ever taken the time to truly see this through. I probably would have gotten distracted, jumped back into painting, and just worked around the mess. But this pause gave me time to heal, time to reflect, and time to really think about all the new beauty I want to create. 🖼️

Here’s to healing, a studio space that finally feels like home, and magical new beginnings. ✨🏡💛

After working in it for a couple of years, I finally knew what was working and what was holding me back. And oh my gosh… it feels so good now. 🌿 Everything has a place—every brush, every tube of paint, every little thing. ✨ And for the first time, my studio truly feels like me.

I started painting 🎨 again today, and it hit me how important this whole process has been—not just for my studio, but for my art and my soul. 💛 If I hadn’t been forced to slow down, I don’t think I would have ever taken the time to truly see this through. I probably would have gotten distracted, jumped back into painting, and just worked around the mess. But this pause gave me time to heal, time to reflect, and time to really think about all the new beauty I want to create. 🖼️

Here’s to healing, a studio space that finally feels like home, and magical new beginnings. ✨🏡💛

Sorry I’ve been missing in action lately. Saying goodbye to our sweet pup, Pam, was so hard 💔, but what really knocked me off my feet was a major infection. It’s complicated—a result of hardware issues and bone deterioration in my jaw from radiation damage during my cancer treatment. My infectious disease doctor called it a MRSA infection. Surgery isn’t really an option without a lot of risk or another life-altering procedure, and honestly… I’ve had enough of that for one lifetime! 🙃

Yesterday, I had my second infusion of the granddaddy(🤷‍♀️) of all antibiotics, and I’ve got my fingers crossed 🤞 it’ll do the trick. The first one worked small wonders—I’m finally starting to feel more like myself and less like Suzy Chipmunk! 🐿️

Before this storm hit, I was in the middle of a big studio makeover—inventory, cleaning, reorganizing, the works! It’s still a bit chaotic, but I’m tackling a little every day. Thankfully, Logan @loganipsum ,Erika @erikadanielleart , and my best guy in the world have been my lifesavers through it all. ❤️

I’m praying I can get back to painting next week! 🎨 I have so many exciting shows coming up and ideas swirling in my head—it’s like they’re just waiting to come to life on the canvas.

Today also marks 11 years + 5 days since my life-altering surgery. Wow… what a gift this time has been. 🌈 This is just a little bump in the road when there’s so much to be grateful for. 🙏

I’m sorry I haven’t been around much lately. The holidays were a whirlwind of happiness and love, but shortly after Christmas, I came down with a head cold that has now taken up residence in my jaw and chin area. It’s a complicated side effect of head & neck cancer and living without lymph nodes and other anatomy. I’m navigating it with the right meds and treatments. I’m doing okay—but my heart is breaking as we prepare to say goodbye to our beloved Pamela, aka Pam, aka Pam Pam. 💔

We’ve known this moment was coming for some time. I prayed she would make it through the holidays, and bless her heart, she did. Pam was 17 ½ years old. She came into our lives unexpectedly, as someone was going to take her to the pound because their child was allergic. From the moment we met her, she was pure love. 🐾

She was older than we first thought, and she came with a big dental bill to remove a bunch of teeth, but none of that mattered. Pam was the sweetest little soul—always in someone’s lap or snuggled up next to you. If you stopped petting her, she’d gently kiss you as a sweet reminder to keep going. Named after Pamela Adlon, she quickly became Queen of our home, bonding deeply with Louie the dachshund and tolerating the big dog, Rae. Pam was always the boss, and she let us know when meals were late with her signature sass. 👑

In her later years, she slowed down, and we adored her wobbly, crooked little walk. She still lit up our lives every day, joining me in the studio and beating everyone else to the door. Her quality of life has declined, and tomorrow, we’ll say goodbye at home, surrounded by love, and she’ll have a special spot in the backyard where we plan to plant a flower bed in her honor. 🌸

Goodbyes are always hard, but this one feels especially so. Pam was just 7 pounds, but she was pure love and joy—a little wonder who stole our hearts the moment we met her. I’ll miss her gentle kisses, her bossy barks, and the way she made our home feel complete. We were lucky to be hers for so many wonderful years. Rest well, Pam Pam. You’ll always be our Queen. ❤️🐶

What a week it has been! 😎 Leave it up to Logan @loganipsum and I to cram so much into a week and still manage to come back refreshed and rejuvenated. 🌟 Here’s a few of our highlights: from the opening of @solanafineart in Winter Park, FL, to wandering through the serene Morikami Gardens in Delray 🌺, exploring Art Miami 🎨, shopping at Mood Fabrics 🧵, catching a drag show at Lips 💃, and visiting three of @macfineart locations in Ft. Lauderdale and two in Delray Beach.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! 🧊 We managed to sneak in lots of Christmas shopping 🎁, a late-night showing of Wicked 🌟, and dined at incredible restaurants that made sure my feeding tube needs were covered! 🍽️ It was fast, furious, and so much fun. 🙌

Oh, and shoutout to @striplingsgeneralstore for making the trip home nice and for beating Buc-ee’s in my book any day of the week 🛍️! And of course, nothing beats those puppy kisses waiting for me when I got home. 🐾❤️

Wow, Miami! 🌴🎨 I’ve missed you so much. It’s been way too long since I’ve been to the Art Fairs—pre-Covid, to be exact! This week, Logan and I had the pleasure of experiencing Art Miami, and wow, it was absolutely incredible. The show was so massive we couldn’t even see it all, but what we did see completely blew us away. 🤯

I wish I had taken more photos to share with you all, but honestly, I get so caught up in the experience. For me, the inspiration I take from these events isn’t usually about whole paintings or specific works. Instead, it’s the little things—the technical details like how pieces are displayed, mounted, or framed—that spark my creativity. Maybe my brain is already overflowing with ideas for paintings that are begging to be created, haha. 😅

But here’s something I’ve learned along the way: an artist’s energy in their work is completely unique. It can’t be copied or duplicated—it has to come from you. For me, that energy starts by being fully present, reacting in the moment with the paint, and trusting the process. It’s not about second-guessing if a brushstroke works or if the color is “perfect.” It’s about knowing that when I give a piece my full attention and pour love into it, that energy will live in the painting.

If you’re too focused on trying to make something look like someone else’s work, you lose that magic. That’s why I didn’t take many photos. Not because I’m trying to sound pompous, but because I know my energy is enough, and I want it to be wholly mine. I always tell my students: your work doesn’t need to look like someone else’s to be good enough. In fact, if it looks like nothing you’ve ever seen before, give yourself a big pat on the back. That’s your energy shining through! 🌟

And if you ever doubt yourself, remember one of my favorite quotes by Andy Warhol:
“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they’re deciding, make even more art.” 💛

The gallery? Absolutely STUNNING! 🤩 And the turnout was incredible—so many wonderful people came to welcome Solana to Winter Park, FL. One amazing artist even flew in all the way from Rhode Island to see me—what an unforgettable surprise! 💖 And someone local who follows me here came out to meet me, too. When she asked if I’d seen any peacocks during my visit (from a post I shared earlier), I was beyond touched. 🦚💛 Knowing my words here resonate with others feels just as special as being heard in person.

The artwork at @solanafineart is simply GORGEOUS! 😍 I was lucky to meet several talented artists, including @stacybarterart , whose painting “Off the Shoulder” about brings me to (happy) tears every time I see it. Her work is so delicate (such a contrast to mine!), and her use of color takes my breath away. 🌸🎨 I also got to connect with old friends like @lorrakurtz , @gingeroglesby , and @karlenemcconnell.art , as well as meet new friends like the incredible @heatherblantonartist ⛷️.

I know I’m forgetting to mention everyone, and I deeply apologize—it was such a spectacular night! ❤️

Oh, and three of my paintings found their forever homes last night! 🖼️🏡 That was just the icing on the cake. 🎂

Here’s one of my new works: “March of the Peacocks” 🦚🦚🦚 (55 x 44, acrylic, glitter, and mica on raw unprimed canvas). Some of you might remember seeing the early stages of this one in a recent reel. At first, I had no idea it would become a celebration of peacocks, but somehow, they always seem to find their way into my work!

When I was little, a peacock mysteriously wandered into my front yard in Waco, TX (very boring place for a kid! 😴). It was so magical, I watched it for what felt like hours until someone finally believed me that there really was a peacock in the yard. That memory still fills me with joy to this day. I even have a peacock feather tattoo on my painting hand to always remember the magic I felt that day. 🦚✨

So imagine how thrilled I was to learn from Solana Fine Art 🌤️’s owner that Winter Park’s mascot is the peacock! I’m hoping to spot a few while I’m there.
